    Component controller and surge protector?

Help! I currently have a Belkin SurgeMaster Model F5C140 gizmo that sits under my monitor. On the back are receptacles for the plugs for all the components of my system (printer, scanner, monitor, computer, etc.). On the front are a main button that turns everything on/off and individual buttons that turn individual components on/off. This is very handy, for example, when I want to start my computer in the morning and not wake anyone up -- I can simply push the speaker button off and turn off all sound. (I know, I can do this individually on the speakers, but they are on a difficult-to-reach shelf.) I really like the gizmo, but I have gotten a new flat panel monitor, with a footprint of about 4"x6". The gizmo has a footprint about 12"x14". I'm looking for a replacement that can sit at the back of my desk under the new monitor and not take up so much space. Any suggestions? I would Google it, but I can't even think of any search terms that are have a narrow enough focus!

Instead of replacing this item, do you have a spot on your desk now that is occupied by anything else of the same size (or there about)? You could simply move the Belkin unit to the new location, and place the existing items on top.

Of course, you'd now have to remember where it is located, but it would save you a bit of money <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>.

That's a really good idea -- I do have something that is bigger than the monitor, but it is still not as big as this thing. But maybe I can turn it on its side or something. I'll fiddle with it while I wait and see if anyone comes up with an even better idea! Thanks.

Have you checked out the Belkin Website yet?
They have a Surgemaster selection wizard there to help you pick out a replacement unit.
