    Create Shortcut from Batch File

I would like to create a batch file that could be used to create one or more subdirectories in the Windows System disk "Program Files" directory, copy some files into the directory, then create shortcuts to those files, placing the shortcut files into other appropriate subdirectories.

Is there any "batch-callable" program that can be directed to create Windows shortcut files? If so, where would one find documentation on the program?

    Thanks, Jim

There was a SHORTCUT.EXE that Microsoft put out with one of the NT4 resource kits, but inexplicably omitted it from later versions.

Perhaps try Marty List's version of Shortcut.

The Windows Script Host, scriptable with VBScript, has an object that supposedly lets you create shortcuts. I've never tested it out (or if I did, I forget whether it worked). I'm not sure a .BAT file can "wait" on a script file, but perhaps there is a command-line switch for cscript.exe that enables that.

    Gentlemen,

Thanks for the info. I now have a direction (or two) in which to seek further solutions.

As usual, Woody's followers are "on the ball"!!
