Editing data in a Crosstab format (A97)

My data is in the following format:
    KeyField1 KeyField2 KeyField3 Year data1 data2

I would to edit the data in a form using the following format:
    KeyField1 KeyField2 KeyField3 2004 2005 2006 (The years will be different each time)
    aaa bbb ccc data1 data1b data1c

Since a Crosstab query in not updateable, I can only think of complicated ways to edit my data.
    1. CTQ feeds a make-table query
    2. Stuff this data into the edit form
    3. Somehow track which items were changed, and what the changes were.
    4. Create and run an update query to make the changes in the main data table.

Has anyone done this before? Am I missing an easier approach?

    TIA for your help. Jerry

That is going to be a lot of work. Perhaps you should ask yourself whether it is really necessary to edit data in what is essentially a reporting format.

In addition to being a lot of work as Hans indicated, it's essentially a non-determinate problem. The cell values in a cross-tab are calculated values, so you can't figure out which records to edit based on edits in a cell.
