    Hide Pointer in Windows 2000

The person asking me for help has installed Word XP and is using Windows 2000/SP4. After Word XP was installed, the mouse pointer now disappears when he's typing. He wants it to always be visible.

I know Windows 2000 does not have a option for hiding/unhiding the mouse pointer. Is there an option in Word XP that controls this? Is there a workaround that will accomplish this for him?

    Thanks!
    Diane

Actually, I think you will find that Windows 2000 does have this option. Take a look at the mouse properties in Control Panel, as shown in the attached screen shot.

Note - this screen shot will look a little different based on the type of mouse software you have installed, but this option should be present in all flavours.

    You must have SOME mouse!

The Windows version is 5.0 (Build: 2195: Service Pack 4). The Mouse Properties has four tabs: Buttons, Pointers, Motion and Hardware. Pointers has only three sections: Speed, Acceleration and Snap to Default. Hiding the mouse pointer is not one of the options in those sections. And ... neither yours nor his looks anything like my Pointers options in Windows 2000.

He is using a Logitech optical wheel mouse on his P/S 2 Port with Windows 2000 and Office XP. The mouse only disappears in Word, not in any other, non-Microsoft Programs like Adobe Acrobat or Eudora or even Textpad.

After reading an article at the following address, I interpreted it as only Windows ME and Windows XP have the option to hide the pointer: http://www.microsoft.com/enable/Prod...rtwindows.aspx

Aye, that is a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer with CursorXP installed. That's why there is a plethora of tabs. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

So far as I know, the only way to hide a pointer in Word is to use the Intellipoint software for Microsoft mice, as discussed in article 256979. On my system with Logitech's drivers, I do not see an option for this. As I stated previously, this is a feature of the mouse software, and is not indigenous to Word. Perhaps the Microsoft article that I linked to will help...although they do not describe a way to disable this behaviour, called vanish.
