    Slow startup (XP)

My portable seems to 'hesitate' for about 3 minutes at startup, and it seems to be something to do with the Network connections, as I can run some programs that don't use Windows Explorer, or a connection, but anything else it just stops until the 3 minutes is over! What could be causing this?

    Re: Slow startup (XP)

Is this from any startup, or just coming out of hibernation?
Has this just started or has it always been the same?
What kind of network? - Workgroup or Domain?
Have you checked for the latest drivers for your NIC?

    Re: Slow startup (XP)

It is from startup, and it has always been the same I think, since I bought it (a Samsung) last year. There is no network, although there is a wireless connection but whether this is on or off doesn't make any difference. I have checked the Samsung sites several times but they had no new drivers to speak of..

I'm confused. You bought a Samsung ????? - monitor, computer, memory stick, ???. Also, if there is no network, what is the "wireless connection" ?.

Sorry, a Samsung X10 portable computer. It is a 'Centrino' so has a wireless connection, but it is not connected to anything at the moment! In fact, whether this is switched on or off (using the button before engaging startup) there is still a long pause.

As soon as you can after startup, open up TaskManager and sort on CPU - this may point to something beavering away.

Otherwise, have a browse through these three threads, it may be interesting to see what services you have starting up which could be superfluous to your requirements.

Are you running XP SP-1 plus all the patches since? This google search:
Troubleshoot startup will give you many MS artciles to try.
