    Getting Started Pane (Word 2003)

When I start Word, it always opens with a Getting Started pane on the right. How do I turn this off permanently? It slows Word down. It used to have a help option also, that connected to Office on the WEB, but I manged to turn that off....but this dumb Getting Started thing persists. This affects Word, but not Excel.

Tools>Options>View and uncheck Startup Task Pane.

It is unchecked! That's the problem.

Have a look at this Knowledge Base article and try Solution 2 (Note - if WordMail is running, Solution 1 won't work).
