Lost synonyms option (Word 2000)
I lost the ability to look up synonyms for a word when right-clicking on it. Now I have to go to the Tools menu. How can I get it back?

Re: Lost synonyms option (Word 2000)

(Edited by jscher2000 on 25-Mar-04 23:37. Uhhh...)
The Synonyms shortcut appears on some but not all of the various context-sensitive "shortcut" menus. If you are handy with a mouse, you can copy items from one shortcut menu to another (for example from one "text" menu to another). However, if it's missing from all the context menus, you'll have to re-add it. Either way, start with Tools>Customize, click the Toolbars tab and check Shortcut menus. Then you can either Ctrl+drag items among the menus (carefully, don't want to lose anything) or: open the shortcut menu you want to customize, return to the dialog, click the Commands tab, and... where the is it? I can't find it anywhere.
I wrote a piece of code to try to pop it onto a temporary toolbar for dragging...
Dim cBarNew As CommandBar, cBarSynCtrl As CommandBarPopup
Set cBarNew = CommandBars.Add("TempBar1", , False, True)
cBarNew.Visible = True
Set cBarSynCtrl = CommandBars("Text").FindControl(ID:=30475)
Set cBarSynCtrl = Nothing
Set cBarNew = Nothing
...but it doesn't work properly there. This is nuts. You might have to use the Reset button on the Toolbars tab of the Customize dialog if all else fails. Hopefully someone else can solve this one.
By the way, where are Synonyms on the Tools menu? (I have Word 2002... maybe it moved.)
Added: After opening the floating palette for the shortcut menus, try Ctrl+dragging the Synonyms item from the Tools menu to the Text>Text pop-up and others that are relevant/helpful. Do they work?
