IRM (Information Rights Management) for email with (XP)

    Hello,

We have a PC with Office 2003 installed.
Utilising the IRM feature, we want to send an email with Word and Powerpoint attachments to a recipient who uses Office XP.

Does the Office XP recipient need anything special to use these IRM protected files?
    E.g. a special reader?

Finally, will I need to INDEPENDENTLY apply IRM security setting to each attachment in it's host application & then again on the actual Outlook Email (to stop the email being forwarded, printed, and give it an expiry date)?

    TIA,

    Bob.

At present, only Office 2003 users can take advantage of IRM. MS recently introduced an IRM add-on for Intenet Explorer, and reading between the lines, I assume that they are also developing add-ons for applications in previous versions of Office. When they will be released is not known.

    Hi,

    Thanks for that.

Are there third-party tools out there which I can use for the same effect?

I really want to send some files & want them controlled?

    Free tools would be nice!

    Thanks,

    Bob.

I am not aware of any, but maybe someone else can jump in here if they have any suggestions.

You really need to define this "want them controlled" more clearly and what you want to control against.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
