    Post Code Combinations (Any)

Some of you may know that I am a part time lecturer at a University near me. I was teaching a couple of weeks ago and had tasked my students to create an input mask for a British Post Code. In my naivety, I had not realised how many different combinations of the Alphanumeric you can actually have in Britain. One of my rather keen students took it upon himself to work out the combinations for several countries in the World and compiled this list for me.

I thought I would post it here as it may be useful to some of you. I have not checked the countries outside the UK but if you can add or subtract to the list I would be grateful as my student is rather eccentric and may have got a bit carried away!!!!

    Enjoy

There is another 'sting in the tail' for this as well. For UK Post Codes there are several alpha characters which are not allowed in the 'InCode' (the second part).

I've attached the VBA code i wrote to validate UK Post codes. I do know that it is not possible to use an Input Mask to properly validate UK Post Codes. I do wonder whether the rules have changed since I wrote this. Maybe someone else can add their <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> here?

    Thanks Steve,

I'll have a play with this over the next few days. In regards to the input mask, I put together an excel sheet with the different combinations that my student gave me and created an input mask using various combinations and got LL0?90LL,but as you correctly state it does not validate the Alphanumeric and is a pig to ensure that the inputter puts a space in the correct point in the code.

I have not had a real problem with Post Codes in the past as I mainly deal with a local area and have a full listing of the Post Codes in that area and have broken it down into two tables tblPostDistrict and tblPostCode ( your incode), I then generally get the user to pick a Postal District ( say SW9) from a Combo box and then another combobox refreshes and picks up the latter part (or incode) from a query. This is rather important for me as my company deals with Properties.

    Cheers
