    'Catastrophic failure' error message (.NET/1.1)

I'm wondering if anyone knows how to deal with a "Catastrophic failure" error message when trying to create a new .NET project -- I can't find any good documentation in the Microsoft KB or MSDN. This happened after my firm installed Outlook 2002 on my development computer! I'd like to try to fix this in the most painless way if possible (i.e., without uninstalling and reinstalling all of .NET -- yes I did say "if possible").

Anyway, if anyone has also experienced this before or has any ideas, I'd greatly appreciate the feedback.

    Thanks,

    Stephan

I've come across a similar problem in the past, although I don't recall that specific error message.

The fix for me was much simpler. Download and install the .NET Framework 1.1 SDK Update (assuming you're using 1.1 already).

It seems to repair some of the .NET files that can become corrupted or misplaced during other installs.

    Hope this helps!

That worked! Thank you very much for saving me hours and hours of time uninstalling and reinstalling .NET.
