Search within a Date Range (Excel 2000)

Hello, I'm trying to make a formula search within a specific date range. My dates are listed in mm/dd/yy format. I had an "IF" Formula that didn't work because it didn't look at the date as a number (I dont' think it recognized 1/3/04 being greater than 1/2/04). That formula was =if(A1>1/1/04,if(A1<1/31/04,B1,"")) This doesn't work. I also tried to change the dates into Decimals, but not only did that not work (formating issues) but it messed up other things because the dates were no longer...well, dates. I'm trying to find out how many occurances there were within a specific date range (monthly) Please help.

Re: Search within a Date Range (Excel 2000)

    Try:
    =if(A1>date(2004,1,4),if(A1<date(2004,1,31),B1,"") )
In your formula you are not looking at a date it is literally comparing the value in A1 > 1/1/4 = 0.25 (yes) and it is less than 1/31/4 = 0.008 and it is not.

You could use the DATE function. I have updated your formula to avoid multiple IFs

    =IF(AND(A1>DATE(2004,1,1),A1<DATE(2004,1,31)),B1," ")
