Triangles appear in games (Windows XP Home)

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200

Ok, my issue is that whenever I go into games and video games millions of little triangles flash all over the screen and it gets very irritating after about a minute. I really don't think it's the graphics card because i can play movies and music videos fine and this has never happened. But whenever I'm in games triangles flash all over the screens infinitely. What is causing this and can it be fixed?

A lot of games are rendered in 3D using "polygons," which I suppose could be manifested as triangles. With a premium graphics board, you would expect this to be wicked fast, seamless, unnoticeable, but maybe there's some kind of performance problem with the board? If you visit Nvidia's web site, are there any updated drivers you could download? (Don't trust Microsoft's Windows Update for graphics card drivers, always go to the source.)

By "patches" do you mean that you updated the drivers and it still did not help?

If so, running the game in a lower screen resolution and/or refresh rate may help abate the problem. It takes a lot more horsepower to run games at high resolutions and refresh rates, and as an owner of a Ti 4200, I can vouch for the fact that much above 800x600 at 75Hz is where you start to see artifacts and performance drop-offs.

They will be located in Display Properties, under the the Settings tab. Resolution can be changed there, and refresh rates can be changed by clicking on the Advanced button and then clicking on the tab titled Monitor.

Nvidia's latest drivers also include all of these settings in one convenient location under Settings - Advanced on the Nvidia tab (as show in the attached screen shot).
