regular popups (OL 2002 Exchange 200)

    Hi,
Problem/Request Description: Several of our users are
getting regular popups with the message:

    Requesting data from Microsoft Exchange

(screen dump to follow when number allocated)

The problem occurs around 10 minutes past the hour every
hour and affects different people on different hours -
there does not appear to be a pattern as to whom and
when. Basically when the popup appears it stops the user
from accessing Outlook until it disappears.

Can you shed any light on this?

inconvenience - sometimes it can take several minutes (up
to 5 minutes on one occasion)

    Regards
    Janey

Can you check the event viewer on the machine Exchange is running on? It sounds like some scheduled task is running there.

The message is a symptom of slow connection. That is, it appears whenever Exchange is slower to respond than expected. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>
The fact that a user is "stopped" is to notice that Exchange is not responding.

So - the connection to Exchange has issues - what to do.
When I had this problem on a small site I found that disabling Messenger helped (Tools>Options>Advanced)
It could be genuine network issues - e.g. interaction with some scheduled network task
Eventually, it went away on my site when I reinstalled Office (so I never did find out the genuine cause).

We've just experienced several weeks of this. The solution involved our IT installing a new Exchange Server and migrating all staff (approx. 150) and students (a further 750) across to the new one. Our IT are wonderful and did it with a minimum of fuss. However, there are always going to be little adjustments required. Good luck !!
