Erratic performance in Outlook (Windows XP/Office XP)

Hi,
I have been having a lot of problems with Outlook lately. Mostly, Outlook is "not responding" once or twice or more while I am trying to open emails or to write emails. I use Word to type my emails and there is a hesitation problem. I can type an entire sentence before it appears on screen. To combat these problems (I guess I'm at war with Outlook <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23> ) I have:
updated Windows XP with all of the updates and reinstalled Office XP and all of the updates. I am not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions?

You will find that most people will not use Word as their email editor, for one of the reasons you have just stated.

Try using the built in editor of Outlook XP and see if the problem goes away.

Go to menu, Tools, Options and the select the Mail Format tab. Then remove the check marks in the box(s) that refer to Word.

Hi again,
One other problem. By your screenshot (and by looking in Outlook help) I see that I can still use signatures without using Word. However, the signature I have been using forever will not work. I read the Help section, followed the directions and it still doesn't work. Can you help me with this?

To use a "logo" (image) in the signature, one must be using "HTML" or "Rich Text" type of email. Then you should be able to add the logo to that signature.

It has been a long time, several versions ago, that I used HTML and signatures. I an NOT find where to do this either, unless it is one was to use the "Use this file as template" and have a word file with the text and font defined and a image of the logo placed where you want it.

You can add a little HTML code to your signature file manually to do this. It's not difficult!! First, visit this folder:

In here is the HTM file Outlook created when you saved your HTML format signature. Open that file in Notepad (e.g., right-click, Open With).

To insert the graphic, you need to know the path to the image file on your computer. To make this simpler to explain, I'm going to assume the graphic file is in the Signatures folder, too. Making a copy there is a good idea. If the image is on the web, so much the better, you just need to direct URL to the image.

Here's some sample code to copy, paste, and edit:

<a href="http://Your Website URL/">
[img]Your image file name[/img]
</a>

If you don't need an active link, only the middle line is relevant. Does this help?
