Reconstructing text from a thread of messages (Email, not browser)

When I Reply to someone, I often eliminate most of the quoted text.

When I am exchanging a series of messages on the same Subject with a particular addressee, I sometimes see a response that includes ALL of the text from ALL messages I have exchanged with the sender.

I oft see this when corresponding with someone at particular companies. It would appear that, perhaps for "legal" reasons, they are required to quote ALL text in a thread, not just from the previous message.

It seems that some mail software has an option to reconstruct, and quote, a thread.
Can Outlook or OE or Eudora do this?

Look at you email options. Check the settings that deal with "Include original message text", they need to be trurn on.

And this has been around since day one of email, where have you been?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

"Look at you email options. Check the settings that deal with "Include original message text", they need to be trurn on."

That was not my question.

The scenario is:

1. HK receives message from X, call this message 1
2. HK replies to message from X, but does not include ALL text from X's message 1.
3. X replies to HK, but all the text from message 1 re-appears, so either X has included that text manually, or some tool causes the text to reappear. Let's call this message 2.
4. HK then replies, omitting ALL, or significant portions, of X's text.
5. X replies and all the text from all the messages is included.

"And this has been around since day one of email, where have you been?"

The only thing I can thing of is they are there are pasting the old data from their older copies.

You left off the time you have spent with Al Gore and on his committee

Never had anything to do with Al Gore, but I've worked with Al G. Rhythms.

I doubt that they are pasting.

I see this much of the time when sending email back and forth to people in particular companies, be they in support or not.
I suspect that they do this as a requirement of their legal beagles.

I'll try to remember to ask next time I receive such a message.

Re: Reconstructing text from a thread of messages (Email, not browser)

Hi Howard:
I still use Netscape 4.75 for email, & I could reconstruct all the previous emails without pasting, if I chose to. Here's how:
1. I send email 1 to you.
2. You send email 2 as a response, with certain parts of email 1.
3. With email 2 open, I click reply & type my response. Then I highlight email to & click the Quote button on my toolbar.
4. Then I delete the part that you quoted.
5. Then I highlight email 1 & click quote.

10 messages down the line, I can still respond to your last email at the top, highlight each message of the thread in reverse order, & press Quote respectively. A lot of trouble to go through & I have no reason to believe that this is a requirement in any law firm. After all, when people were writing letters, they didn't include copies of each previous piece of correspondence.

The method above would leave all previous quoted messages with the same number of > (one) in front of each quote, so it would be a little different than everyone quoting the last message they received in it's entirety.

I have nothing useful to contribute re the emails, but in reference to:

1. First 9+ years of my life, Kings County, NY.
2. Next 12 years, Queens County, NY.

Would like to add, for benefit of those not native to New York City & its environs, that "Kings County, NY" is better known to most of the world as Brooklyn, NY, one-time home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Flatbush Avenue, and much else. (For the record I grew up in the Borough of Queens, NY (aka Queens County), specifically Rockaway Beach, across the bridge from the Borough of Brooklyn.)

It would appear that some companies/individuals always respond with a message that includes ALL the text from previous messages.

I would guess that they ASSuME that makes it easier to respond since each message always has ALL the text.

I forgot to mention that I spent much of the last 8 years in NY on Manhattan island attending school at Stuyvesant HS and C.C.N.Y. (now known as The City College of the City University of New York).
