    Outlook Express (Not known yet)

Can anyone tell me why downloading email with OE should be very slow. I have checked the mailbox from another computer & it is not blocked with a large message or attachment. From that other computer Send & Receive was normal.

In addition when composing a new message the display of what has been typed & the mouse action are also very slow. Yet in Word behaviour is normal. Could this behaviour be a virus?

I wont be able to operate this computer until Tuesday so I am asking now in case anyone has experienced similar behaviour.

If you have large data files where your mail is stored, it could be a cause of performance degradation. Have you tried compacting the message folders?

Thank you for your reply. I doubt there are any data files but I'll arrange for compacting to be done.

By "data files" I was referring to the database files that OE creates to store its information. These are .dbx files where everything is kept. You may find some additional useful information in this thread.
