No input (XP Home)

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to make this post, have a problem with a machine; mouse and keyboard just don't work, can't therefore get beyond booting. Any ideas please?

Cheers.

Do the mouse and keyboard work to communicate with the BIOS?

If the answer is no then you have a hardware problem, either 2 faulty components or a faulty motherboard or a silly cabling/connection problem.

If the answer is yes then you could try starting in safe mode and see what that does.

Questions:

Are the mouse andor keyboard USB input types or Serial types?
Is this a new machine or has the problem just developed?

We need more infomation regarding the makeup of your system.

Man of few words, huh? Never met a computer that didn't "talk" to its BIOS! If you've tried a replacement mouse and keyboard and it still doesn't work, I'd say it's probably time to replace this "old" computer.

Hey Al,

Without a working keyboard or mouse, I guess it can't "talk" to the BIOS.
You're right, indications DO point to a retirement plan for the old machine. ( or at least the MB and CPU )

Yeah, you're right Bob. It was one of those punctuation things where he said "old computer, doesn't talk to BIOS" I just took it wrong. Where's John Gray when I need him (Or, more precisely, Lynne Truss)
