Icons for Favorites (IE6)

I can't figure out why IE doesn't display the icons of websites I visit. WOPR is the only one that has an icon that does. Comcast, QVC to name a couple never display their icons. When I use Netscape I always get the icons and the icons stay when I save them as favorites. How can I get them to display and then remain attached when I save them as favorites?

I've read some of the threads but don't understand them or maybe I've missed the point in them.

HELP. This is one of those little annoyances that drive me crazy.

I too have had this happen repeatedly with Internet Explorer, on various machines and through different versions of the browser. The best that I can say about it is that Internet Explorer's implementation of FavIcons (which, coincidentally, Microsoft developed) is that it's flaky. I don't think there is a permanent solution short of using a Mozilla based browser.

Mark, I generally use Netscape and it isn't a problem there. But there are a few websites that don't work at all or very well with Netscape. Thus the question. Thanks!

Are you using Netscape of old, or Mozilla Netscape? If you are, there is an extension for the Firefox browser (which I think also works in Mozilla) that allows for a right-click "View in IE" option. I encounter that once and a while myself, and swear at the site developer while right-clicking...

The problem in most cases is that the ICON is deleted from the "Internet Temp Files" folder.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I use FavOrg which is free from I do not remember who. Just do a google search and you should find it. It saves the icons in a separate folder.

Even better, download a browser that does it right so you don't need a separate add-in.

Mark, I *DO* use the right browser. Netscape 7.1. However, some sites, like my bank site and Comcast, don't work very well with Netscape, thus using IE for it.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and help. Greatly appreciated!

Oh yes, I saw that you mentioned that in a previous post. Kudos to you! I'm just trying to evangelize to the rest of the community (reformed IE users are the worst aren't we?)

    Re: Icons for Favorites (IE6)

*I* never had to reform. I was "born" into Netscape. And yes, reformed anythings are always the worst

Now, if only I could figure out why when I place a web address on my desktop (dragging from the url in Netscape) it won't work. I have the same exact system at home and it works fine. Arrrgh!!

Does it not create the shortcut on the desktop? Might be worth another thread in the Other Browsers forum...

The shortcut is created, it just doesn't work. I've checked other desktop stuff and none seem to apply. I must have screwed up some setting somewhere. I'll just keep comparing home and work settings and see which don't match
