    add-on add-in plu-in (doesnt matter)

Can somebody explain wether there are differences between a plug-in, an add-on, an add-in, or are these all the same?

    regards HA

In practice, the three terms are often used interchangeably.

Microsoft uses "add-in" for additions to its Office applications that enhance their functionality.
"Add-on" is often used for hardware expansions, but also to mean the same as "add-in".
"Plug-in" suggests easy installation, but that is not always true. The term is often used for additions to web browsers ("the Adobe reader plug-in")
