I forgot what I was going to say

... which may please some of you.

I occasionaly "lose" a post through my own stupidity, but wonder whether the board may not be able to help me.

Typical situation: I key in the text foir a new post, choose Preview to inspect my handiwork, and then ({search} tags are a good example) decide to wander off and check something else before issuing the Post command.

Problem is, I may close the new window from way down the r&d path and lose all my typing.

It would be NICE if the board, having issued a Preview screen and NOT receiving a Post command could somehow either (1) archive the previwed text in a backup buffer or (2) issue me a reminder after five minutes "you have some unfinished business pending"

It's not {search} itself that causes the problem, it's any kind of wandering-away-to-check that can distract me.

    Chris,

Here's a project for you. Set up a word template in which you can type up you your Post/Reply with all the neccesary tags etc. and when you are ready to post the thing just copy and paste (or maybe a macro with SendKeys). I am actually surprised that you do not have such a thing already.

Don't hold your breath. There are more pressing matters before that one will get anywhere near the top of the list.

Re: I forgot what I was going to say

That's happened to me a few times - being interrupted by my cell phone (someone calling to say "GET OFFLINE ALREADY AND CALL ME BACK!!). Then getting back to my post, receiving a message something like 'the page has expired' and (after preview and then going back to edit it is gone!). So I try to remember to copy and paste my post to an Outlook e-mail and save it (it goes into 'drafts' folder).
But I don't always remember. So I sometimes have to re-create or I've got whatever was bugging me out of my system so I don't post and burden you all with my angst. <img src=/S/laugh.gif border=0 alt=laugh width=15 height=15>

If I'm doing a long one, I generally compose in notepad (less system resources being utilized) and then copy and paste. As for the tags, open the 2 panels and you can quickly Alt+Tab between and key the tags (in 1-click you need to mouse-over the buttons to see the tags). However, for brief items I just take my chances.

Hmmm. So my REAL problem is "How to make MY problems seem more pressing than other people's", eh? (grin!)

Well, it may come as surprise to you to find that I do have a procedure in place, but not a VBA Procedure.

When I get a flood of email responses, or a backlog, I use Eudora to generate the reply text (which can't be emailed back to the roBot) and then paste the reply text into NotePad which gets saved in a desktop folder Woody2Go. That's where THIS text has been sitting for a day or so.

When I get back to the lounge, I can scan new messages. If I spot one to which I have "replied", I grab the text and paste it straight in. At the end of reading "New" I can go back to Eudora and remove those messages to which I have replied, then use the links in the email to access specific posts that I missed on my first pass. They too get the prefabricated reply.

It sounds clumsy, but it does mean that I can work through a backlog without tying up my 'phone line - especially handy when I'm waiting for a call during the day.

I have a second desktop folder WoodyTrash to which I drag text after it has been processed.

It goes without saying that .. (and so I won't say it).

I am in the habit of selecting ALL the Notepad files in Woody2Go and tapping Enter; this opens up, say, a dozen text files on the desktop. As I use each one to reply to a post, I close the Notepad. When all instances of Notepad are gone, I've posted all my prefabricated replies. All files in Woody2Go are still selected. I drag them holus-bolus to WoodyTrash.

I use the same techniques for composing New posts when there's no urgency. Type them up in Notepad, add the {pre}{/pre} tags, save them in Woody2Go. That's the source of most of my Subject Code: postings in VB/VBA.

I hope this helps you understand the workings of my mind, such as it is .....

    I don't get expired

BTW, here's an EXCELLENT use of the {search} tags in OFFLINE COMPOSITION mode. I've composed a Notepad file (this one) and saved it as Andrew1.txt. Later I'm composing a reply to PMcGinty, and before saving IT as McGinty1.txt I load it with a search string which I've pasted from Andrew1.txt; then I return here and paste a search string back to PMcGinty1.txt. Tonight or tomorrow, when I upload all these text files, two of them will point to each other automatically so that each of you can read the other's thread. And right now (as I type) I don't even have to worry about what FORUM they are in!

I don't get expired, but it does bug me that a computer somewhere knows I'm interested in posting a message and doesn't take care of it.

We have all the other warnings "Are you sure, are you REALLY sure you want to delete it?" but nothing in this case. It really amounts to a deletion-without-warning, and could be handled by a computer.

But see also my response to Andrew Cronnoly(?) Well, it may come as surprise to you.
