    Customizations gone overnight (2002)

For maybe the past two or three days I've noticed that my customized toolbars, macros, menus, etc. have been missing. Strange, but I thought they would somehow revert.

Unfortunately, they haven't -- and I have no idea what to do. If memory serves, all my customizations should be in Normal.dot. But it appears they aren't. In fact, it appears that every customization I've made in the past few years is gone!

Is there anything I can do? (My backup program is not working.) Thanks.

These customizations are stored in Normal.dot, so it seems Normal.dot has become corrupt. If you don't have a non-corrupt backup, the only thing you can do is:
    - Move Normal.dot to another folder.
    - Start Word, and re-create your customizations. When you exit Word, a new Normal.dot will be created.
    - Make backup copies of Normal.dot.

Hi Hans. Thanks for your prompt reply. Do you have any idea how this could have happened? Thanks again.

    Re: Customizations gone overnight (2002)

GOOD NEWS!! In Cocuments and SettingsJonathan RickApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates there is a file named Normal.BAK.

I copied this file onto my desktop and renamed it Normal.doc. I then opened the file... and found all my customizations!

What should I do next (besides fix my backup program)? Thanks.

    Remove the old (corrupt) Normal.dot.
Rename the file you found to Normal.dot.
And make a backup copy NOW - make a copy in another folder, for example.
