    Internet Browser

Can anyone recommend a reliable internet browser to suit a "brick"...ie, an old IBM thinkpad overclocked (?) to P100 status, and only approx 300 meg hard mem. I don't expect bells and whilstles, any previously tested freeware suggestions from download.com et al for a basic browser would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers & thanks

In a word (or two): Mozilla FIrefox. Free, fast, and better than Internet Explorer.

I'll try it mate, but the specs look way more than the laptop will handle.
I wonder if there is somewhere you can get an OLD version of IE or netscape?

There is. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> It's called the Evolt Browser Archive - and I'd bet you can find anything that you like there!

Thanks again mark, looks good! Can you tell me though how I get all the folders together in one application? I don't know how to download and use them in this format

    Re: Internet Browser

I suppose the answer to that depends on what version of the browser you're looking at... for all Windows 95 systems and beyond, that would be the 32 bit version. If I navigate that website to http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/4.01/browseronly there is a ZIP file that contains the entire installation. Is that what you were asking?

    Willow,

If you just choose the browser and version you want from the list and then drill down through the folders by clicking on the browser's name in each window, it will take you to a download page with a list of mirror sites. HTH

    Re: Internet Browser

Mark/Doc, thanks for the help but when I get to the correct folder, it only downloads files <100k, not the full several meg versions. Zip then doesn't recognise the file. I've tried straight click, right click, and DAP all without luck.
Arrrgghh (I am a problem child)

    Re: Internet Browser

    Willow, try this link: http://planetmirror.com/pub/browsers/ie/32...P2/ie401sp2.exe

This should be a 52 MB download in EXE format from one of the Evolt mirror sites. When I tested that link, I got a prompt to save to disk, and it was the whole shebang.

Or go here for Navigator 6.0 from PlanetMirror (your local down-under server).
