    Multiple program openings (XP Professional)

I can't seem to locate where in this package to supress the multiple-openings of the same program. I suddenly get two Excels open, for instance, when I use Explorer or have a shortcut to a specific file...I don't seem to remember this earlier, but suddenly it's a problem. I get that "Personal.xls is already open" etc. message box that tells me what's going on. TYIA

Go to "Taskbar Properties" (right click the taskbar) and make sure that there is a check mark in the 'Group similar taskbar button'.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Instead of double-clicking, if you right-click and choose Open, does that avoid the doubling? If so, perhaps it's a mouse hardware/driver/configuration problem. Once upon a time there was a Windows setting that effectuated a double-click if you only clicked once. Maybe that got turned on somehow. Anyway, that is all that comes to mind.
