    Can't open file (excel 98)

When trying to open a file, the following message comes up ""file name" cannot be accessed. The file may be read-only, or you may be trying to access a read-only location. Or, the server the document is stored on may not be responding."

The file is not a read-only file. We are able to open other excel files from the same location. Is there anything else we can try or do you think the file could be corrupt? The file is only 4.0 KB.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried rebooting? If the file is on a server, have you tried rebooting the server. If you are certain that the file does not contain any virus, try turning off your anti-virus software.

We tried rebooting and that didn't work. I just tried without the anti-virus software enabled and it still didn't work. I checked it for viruses first. I forgot to add that it was on the local hard drive not a server. I don't know if that makes a difference.

File could be corrupt: See this MS article. It also links to (possible) ways to recover some of the info

You may consider attaching the file to a message here, I will try to open it using various programs.

4K seems very small though, I doubt that there is any information in it. A blank workbook already takes 14 K on my system.
