O98 Outdated address books

Because I have deleted and moved several contacts folders, my address book is screwed up. In other words, when I click "To" on a new message and click the down arrow on the window in the upper right of the address books window, there are a lot of folders listed, but many say "The address list could not be displayed" when I choose them.

I cannot figure out how to get rid of the obsolete ones from this list. It doesn't help to look at the "add to address book" check box on the folders' properties tabs, because they've been moved. I even tried moving them back--no good.

Are you using corporate or internet only mode?

look in tools > services, addressing tab. delete the extra address books listed. you can delete all and start fresh if you want.

Thanks, Mary, but the only folders listed there are the ones that work. The obsolete ones that I want to delete aren't there!!

    I appreciate the tip, though.

you'll need to hack the registry then. look for windows messaging subsystem key, your profile is listed there.

deciding which keys to delete might be interesting, bot basically, look for the folder names and delete them. you may have to look at each value, as some keys use unicode and you only see the hex value.

alternately, you can remove your profile and create a new one. this might be faster, depending on your profile.

    Re: O98 Outdated address books

I really do appreciate your attempts to help, but I'm not going there!

I looked in the registry where you suggested and it is completely unclear to me which entries, if any, I could delete. There are entries to pst's, etc., but none for the contact folders themselves. There are things whose identity is completely unclear. I'm not that much of a geek. But I know not to fool with the registry unless I know what I'm doing!

    Again, thanks for trying.

A man who knows his limitations is a winner. If you have a partner, i hope they know how lucky they are to have you.
