    .bat files (IE6 and WinXP)

We are in the process of upgrading our users to WinXP and IE6. We have been using NT4 and IE5.5. We have an intranet accessable through the browser. On the intranet we have a password protected page that has links to .bat files for administration duties. These no longer work with IE6 and XP. Any ideas?

Obviously BAT is a dangerous file type, so I think immediately of a security setting. Do the files run if the user first right-clicks the link and saves to the desktop? If so, it could be a browser security setting for the Intranet zone.
