    Creating tables on the fly

Anybody minimally involved with MSWord/VBA routines knows that the easiest way to create a table on the fly is to use the add method as follows doc.tables.add (params....) or so. Now....what would be the equivalent functionality if this were desired on a web page (as opposed to a Microsoft Word doc)?. The basic idea is to have a button on screen and then assign a function or script to that button that will create the table in a snap. The client is IExplorer 6. The object model is perfectly well documented on VBA but when it comes to IExplorer.... Thanks in advance.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by jscher2000 on 13-Apr-04 11:30. Added a question or two...)</P>Would this be done on the server (e.g., in ASP using VBScript, in ASP.NET, etc.) or in the browser (using, e.g., JavaScript)? In the latter case, see these threads for some ideas:

    JavaScript to insert into table

    JavaScript to append table data

Added: Can the user's button click simply "unhide" a table built into the page or do you really need it to be built dynamically? Also, does it need to be in the same page or is a new window okay?
