WinUpdate

I'm getting some strange results from an update scan at WinUpdate.

I seem to recall that there were files in Win98 that you could delete, forcing a fresh system scan for updates needed.

Is this possible in Win2K, and if so, how?

What kind of strange results? You can view the log in C:WINNTWindows Update.log to see what may be going on.

If you want to knock out everything and start clean, try this:

1. <LI>Clean out your Temporary Internet Files.
   <LI>Delete the folder crogram fileswindowsupdate
   <LI>Delete the %systemroot%system32windowsupdate folder (this is a hidden folder)
   <LI>Try windows update again.

The local catalog file is iuhist.xml. If you delete it, the catalog will be reset. I'd recommend renaming or moving the file instead of deleting if you choose to go this route.

Although I found crogram fileswindowsupdate, I found no signs of %systemroot%system32windowsupdate (c:winntsystem32windowsupdate)...

I go into winupdate, and it shows no available updates, then log off, go back on, and it shows 5,7, or some such... -- critical ones--

Dunno...
