    Outlook HANGS (Outlook 2000 SR-1)

    Problem:
    Sometimes Outlook hangs when it is closing. It is attached to an Exchange 5 vserver. It hangs on Syncronizing Form.

    2 Things

    1. I want to install Office2000 SP3 but it will not let me since it was a admin/package install. I found this article and it showed me how to do it, but I need help.

    --------> procedure is:

    a. Execute the following command line (Wait until each command is finished).
    msiexec /p C:winword.msp /a " Y:OF2KSP2STDdata1.msi" SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* C:LogSP3-1.txt

    winword.msp is just an example filename. You would replace this with the SR3 patch filename.

    The problem is that the file I want to use is o2ksp3.exe. I get this error saying it cannot open the installation file.

    Is this familiar to anyone?

    2. Is there a "Systematic Approach to Behavioral Problems in Outlook"

    Thanks

    Normall, an administrative install or update is performed by your system administrator. As a user, you probably do not have the necessary permissions to apply service packs. On a network installation, there is one central "install point" which must be updated and then from there, all of the clients are updated.

    I don't use Exchange... does "synchronizing forms" mean copying forms to your computer? I believe there is a startup switch or other method to flush your forms cache, in the event that it becomes corrupted. You might try that. If you search here for a group of keywords like form cache corrupt you should be able to find something.

    Very good question. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> The answer is: at present, there is not. Part of the reason for this is historic. Initially, the first releases of Outlook were materially different from each other - which made Outlook itself less than systematic! There has also been the issue of whether you are using an independent version, or are you connecting to Exchange Server. That said, it is something that we may well get around to.

    If you are referring Jan Karel Pieterse's Excel post of similar name, not exactly, but in these two threads you'll find most of the fixes, many in upstream post references: <post#=352179>post 352179</post#>, <post#=282455>post 282455</post#>. You might want to Search this forum for "hang", "crash" and "freeze".
