    Startup Question

A friend brought me her computer that has ME and when it boots it looks like its gonna start windows and then says "explorer cannot start Please reinstall windows".
Now i can do that but when i go to reinstall windows there is not enough space on her HD cause she filled it with crap. Is there anyway i can boot into Dos (she has no floppy drive so i cant do a boot disk) so i can delete files and folders without erasing the whole hard drive?

Anyway help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Re: Startup Question

Can you boot to Safe Mode? Press and hold down the CTRL key while you restart your computer, and then choose Safe Mode on the Windows Me Startup menu. If you can, you may be able to do some cleanup from there.

Without access to a floppy drive, the problem is compounded. You might want to have a look at this Knowledge Base Article . If nothing here works, you may be forced into a complete reinstall.

Check out these sites: Bootable CDs & Bootdisk.com. Bart's bootable CDs is probably your best bet. You hsould be able to figure out how to burn a CD you can use on the ME system.

    Re: Startup Question

Just an additional thought to those already posted here: you cannot boot into DOS with Windows ME. Microsoft not only removed support for true DOS mode in this operating system, they also made it so that even if you boot with a DOS floppy (at least one created with WinME), you can't see anything on the hard drive.
