    Password Reset Wizard (WinXP Pro)

I have read what Woody has to say on this subject. I have a Desktop without a
floppy disk drive. When I try to create a password disk, it wants to go to the
C drive and gives me no choice. Woody mentioned he got this working on
flash memory over USB, so I put my PNY USB 2.o 256 MB drive in, but
the wizard never sees it or gives me a choice to use anything other than
    C. Either way. I created the file on my C drive and moved it to the flash
USB drive, but the restore side still will only go to C. How did Woody do it?

Re: Password Reset Wizard (WinXP Pro)

I have more information. On a different PC which does have a floppy drive, if I put the
flash drive on it and try to create a password reset disk, it gives me a screen where
I can choose between the floppy disk drive or the flash drive. And it works! But on
the PC without a floppy drive, it will only go the C Drive. Any ideas?

When you attach your flash USB drive, is it seen by Device Manager or Windows Explorer? If so, what drive letter has Windows Explorer assigned to it?

Yes, you can see the drive on Windows Explorer. The drive comes up as E:
    on both PCs.

OK. I don't have a flash drive so I don't know whether or not this will work. Have a look at this Knowledge Base article . With the flash drive attached, see if you can reassign it to Drive A. Then try and create the password disk again.

Re: Password Reset Wizard (WinXP Pro)

I tried changing the drive letter of the flash drive to A: and that worked. I was able to use the wizard
to create the password reset file and then I tried rebooting the computer without the flash drive
and putting it in just before it needed it, and the PC still had the flash drive set up as A: and the
wizard worked fine. It seems like a strange solution, but as long as it works, that is what counts.
    Thanks for the suggestion..............
