    Run Dialog has Vanished (2002 SP1)

    Using Windows XP Pro, Fully Patched. EZ Armor Firewall and AntiVirus fully up to date. Swept machine for viruses, it's OK.
    Just recently I lost my Run dialog. Click on Start - Run, and it does nothing.
    I have gone into MSCONFIG and disabled all unneccesary startup programs, stripped it to the bone, and still the same.

    Any ideas on what I can do to get my Run Dialog back?

    How about at Kelly's Web Site, down to #57, on the right, there's a registry patch to "restore the run command." Since it's a short patch, I'll put the contents here, in case you want to do it manually:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVe rsionPoliciesExplorer]
    "NoRun"=dword:00000000

    Of course, you can try downloading her .reg file and do it that way, but I always like to look in the registry first to see what it currently says. Many times, I'll export the current key(s) for safety sake.

    Edited to add: After posting, I looked in my registry and this "NoRun" key doesn't exist, so you'll probably be adding it as a new key also. FWIW you probably SHOULD export first.

    I'd like to be able to backup the registry, certainly, however if I can't get to the Run Dialog, how can I run regedit?

    Sorry 'bout that. Another Senior Moment on my part! REGEDIT.EXE is in the C:WINDOWS directory. What happens if you find it with Explorer and double-click it? If all else fails, you could download and run Kelly's .REG file. I'm pretty confident in her stuff, so you should be "safe" in doing so.

    Start>All Programs>Accessories>Command Prompt. Type "Regedit", and Enter.
