Table merging (xp)

Hi, i am rather perplexed by the behaviour of tables in Word...

The following scenario describes my problem:

I have two tables with a paragraph marker in between them, and want to join them to form 1 table. Sometimes this will happen if I remove the paragraph marker, and other times the tables 'join', but remain distinct ( as the little square in the top left of the table tells me). I dont remember having this problem in Word 97.

Is there an easy way to tell WordXP to join tables together? I want to be able to do this as I am cleaning up documents where tables sapn pages, and want to make use of the 'repeat headings' feature, but of course this is a per table feature.

I have looked through all the options and settings, properties of the tables in qwuestion and can find no reason why sometimes tables WILL join and sometimes they wont.

regards
Thanks,

pmatz

Could you post a small example document in which you can't merge the tables? You can remove (most of the) text; make sure not to leave any sensitive information.

Re: Table merging (xp)

Hi, see enclosed document. The document is a part protected template, which may be the cause of the problem, as these templates have restricted functionality in Word.

But when i copy and paste the tables into a normal word document, the behaviour is the same

Any ideas?

Thanks

The tables in your document have been formatted with different Table AutoFormats: the first, third and fourth table in the unprotected section are set to Table Grid (with additional manual formatting), the second one to Table Normal. If you apply Table Grid to the second table in the unprotected section, you will be able to merge it with the other tables.

aaaaaaaaahhhhh!!! <img src=/S/brainwash.gif border=0 alt=brainwash width=15 height=15>

Once again Hans... u the man!

Thankyou, I have a 'remove all formats' macro in VB that i run prior to pasting data into the template. I will amend it to check for table autoformats also, something I would not have thought of!

Cheers
Thanks,
