    Quicksearch (Firefox 0.8)

Edited by WyllyWylly to add Ordered List tags. See the markup help. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

In <post#=325132>post 325132</post#> <!profile=WyllyWylly>WyllyWylly<!/profile> showed how to use Tweakui to set up quick search handlers for IE. It's just as easy to set them up in Firefox. I have not used other versions of Mozilla so can not confirm if it also works in other versions

The following shows how to set up a quick search for Woody's lounge so that you can type "wopr searchterm" to conduct a full search of the lounge from the address bar.

    1. <LI>Create a bookmark that refers to your chosen search page. For this example go to the Lounge search page and bookmark it. You will adjust the url in step 3. I save these Bookmarks in the "Quick Search" folder though it can be saved in any folder.

<LI>Right click on the bookmark and choose properties

<LI>Change the fields to the following (see screenshot below for an example)
      Name: WOPR Search
      Location: http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/dosearch.p...ts&Words=%s
      Keyword: wopr
      Description: whatever you want.

The url string you enter in the location is exactly the same as those for the search handlers in IE so you can duplicate those used by IE. (refer to <post#=325132>post 325132</post#> for other examples)
The keyword is what is used to conduct the search.

<LI>Save the changes and you can now search from the address bar by typing the following:
      wopr "searchterm1 searchterm2"

    Re: Quicksearch (Firefox 0.8)

Tony, thanks for documenting and sharing this. I had thought about posting it some time back, but never got around to it - it certainly makes browsing with Firefox a lot easier. To boot, saving your Quicksearch handlers is as easy as backing up your bookmarks.
