    Formula Entry is Text (XP)

Someone sent me an XL file and when I try to type in a formula, it does not return the expected value. The cell in which I typed the formula lists the formula itself.

I checked the setting under Tools > Options > Windows Options Formulas is "Unchecked". Therefore the formula should not be shown.

    Any ideas as to why?
    Thanks,
    John

Perhaps the cell is formatted as text? (in Format | Cells, Number tab)

    Hans,

    That was it.

    Thank you,
