Sort in a column by the 4th character

I want to sort data in one column by the 4th character in the column. The column has 6 digits, the first three are text, the 4-6 is a number or text. I want the sort to look at the 4th digit in the sort. Help!

Re: Sort in a column by the 4th character

    Hi Doc,

Take a look at the mid function. If you are able to insert another column, I would use the following formula in that column and sort based on the results in your new column.

    =MID(A1,4,1)

where "A1" is the cell containing your text/number combination, "4" is the position, and "1" is the number of characters you wish to return.

    HTH,
