    removing built-in templates

In Word 2000, is there any way to remove the web page and e-mail message templates? Is there a particular template these are attached to?

    Thanks

Do a search on your hard disk for *.dot and see what you find. In a directory with a name oddly similar to 1032 you will find all the usual culprits. Microsoft have taken to hiding the templates so it takes you longer to kill them. Maybe they will get some marketing mileage on the next version when they put the templates in someplace logical like a directory called Templates so users can find it easily.

To change any of the built-in templates in Word 2000 you need to go to the Add-Remove Programs in your Control Panel. Click on Word 2000 or Office 2000 and select template groupings to remove. So far as I know, there are no actual .dot files on your computer.

See: (<A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm>http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm) for more on templates (user and workgroup), document templates, global templates and Normal.dot.

    Re: removing built-in templates

You're right, there seem to be no actual templates on the computer for either the web page or email. I tried removing all of the template groups from the Office Setup--the email and web page templates still show up in the new file dialog.

I'll keep digging and see what I come up with.
    Thanks.

Searching for a matching *.dot was the first thing I tried. I've also tried Charles' suggestion of removing the template groups through the Office Setup. No go. They're still there.

I'll keep digging. Thanks for your suggestion.

There is a web page wizard, but that doesn't help to get rid of the web page template in the new file dialog.

    Thanks for your suggestion.

Did you ever find a solution for this? Seems to be the same problem in 2002.

Appreciate any help you can give...Donna

Nope, never did find a way to remove the web page template.
