Files with extension .mda are Access add-ins. They are usually not meant to be opened directly.

Moreover, there is no standard add-in System.mda as far as I know. There is another file named System.mdw, the default workgroup information file. This file holds information about users and groups. It is also not meant to be opened directly, but you can view and edit users and groups through Tools | Security | User and Group Accounts...

    Thanks Hans.

I would like to change the details on a form but get an error.
    see attachment.

Any ideas as to how l could change permissions on dbase.
I know how to do this but cannot due to permission restrictions.

In order to change the permissions on a database object, you need to log in to the database under an account (username/password) that has owner rights. You can then select Tools | Security | User and Group Permissions... to change the permissions on forms, tables etc. You will probably *not* have owner rights if you log in as a standard user.

If somebody else secured this database, you should consult her or him about this.

    Thanks Hans.

I will contact the person who might have done this.

If my memory serves, in Access 2.0 and earlier, the workgroup file was named System.mda. I believe it got changed to System.mdw with the switch to VBA instead of Access Basic.

Thanks, I didn't know that. Access 95 was the first version I worked with.
