    Custom printing menu item (5.5 & 6)

    Hi

I am using IE 5.5 & 6. I often want to print just selected parts ofthe page. This can be done through the normal print menu item, but I am looking for a custom menu item or bookmarklet that would enable me, with one command, print the selected page of a page to the default printer.

    Does anyone have any ides?

    Thanks

    Hi

I have not had any replies. Surely someone can see a solution for one step 'selected text printing"

    Thanks

I don't know a one command solution. Are you saying that selecting a portion of the page & pressing Ctrl+P, then Alt+S, <enter> isn't acceptable?

I forgot what a bookmarklet is, but if it involves a string of JavaScript or VBScript, I think you will hit a dead end after "print"; there's no way to bypass or drive that dialog using script. You could simplify the process by having the selection pasted into a new window so that when the dialog pops up you just have to hit Enter. But then you'd have to close the new window. I did write a script once that used the FileSystemObject to copy a file. In theory you could dump the selection out to a file and try to copy it to the printer port. Not so good for a networked environment.

If you are moving beyond script into executable code that can invoke the Windows API, I think your options expand. But that's way beyond my realm.

    Hi Chris

If a standalone "Print Screen" application with a configurable hotkey trigger is acceptable, a search for "Print Screen" or "Screen Print" in the Software Finds and Wants forum should turn up something.

I use, and highly recommend Snagit. It is not Free.

    Have a Great day!!!
