Final Showing Markup... can't get it to change (2003)

A user has a document that has all the tracked changes accepted. She wants to show Final... not showing markups. She click on it to select Final. Saves the document. The next time she goes into the document, it is Final Showing Markup again. No one has made any edits to it. How can we get it to default to the Final view?

I'm not sure and don't have 2003 - but I suspect that this behaviour only appears when not all changes have been accepted.
I'm aware that you've said all changes have been accepted - but personally, I'd click the acceptall button again anyway prior to save. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
Failing that - SaveAs RTF format and reimport

Thanks. I did that. I also noticed that if you have the reviewing toolbar loaded and you open a blank document.. it defaults to the Final Showing Markup.... even when there isn't a document open. I am wondering if that is the default behaviour and if there is a way to change that.

I have occasionally seen a document open in "Final," but it think it was created in an earlier version of Word.

As far as I'm concerned, it's extremely dangerous not to be viewing markup, so whether the user believes the toolbar is annoying or not, it probably is in her best interests that it works that way.

(Also, if there are no changes, what's the harm of showing the nonexistent changes?)

Check the setting marked "Make Hidden Markup Visible When Opening or Saving" under Tools->Options->Security. Even though all the changes may have been accepted, if there's a Comment or other Markup it may be triggering the "Final showing markup" view.

    HTH!

Yet another thing that has changed in Word 2003! Must remember to disable that so users can't turn it off. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>
