Page Numbers in the Header/Footer (Word 2000)

How come when I format page numbers in the header/footer ( x of y) they look correct on the screen, but when printed they aren't. i.e. Let's say I have a three page documents. The first page will say 1 of 1 the second page will say 2 of 3 and the third will say 3 of 3. However when printed it says 1 of 1/ 2 of 2/ 3 of 3????
    It's driving me crazy! Thanks

This problem was supposed to have been fixed in service release SR-1A of Word/Office 2000. See <A target="_blank" HREF="http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/PageXofY.htm">

Thank you Hans - I'll read over the material and let you know how I make out. Thanks for the prompt response.
