Code for Smart Card readers (VB SP5)

I am looking for VB Code to find out the names of smart card readers that are installed on a particular machine. Would be best if using a COM Object (Perhaps in scradssp.dll?)
    Thanks in advance

Re: Code for Smart Card readers (VB SP5)

I don't have a Dumb Card, let alone a Smart Card, installed, so am not very familiar with this subject. Recommend take a look at MSDN:

    Smart Card Resource Manager API

There's numerous API's you can call (most beginning with "SCard") related to Smart Card devices & resources; however, quick perusal of MSDN documentation indicates the API declarations and sample code provided is in C++. So you'd have to translate the C++ to VB syntax. There may be some VB-friendly code samples out there for this API (which does not appear very friendly to use), but I have not seen any.

PS - If you do a lot of "Smart Card" stuff you may want to take look at the Microsoft Smart Card Tool Kit:

Microsoft Smart Card Tool Kit (Amazon.com)

At Amazon this toolkit can be purchased for 49.95 USD (via a reseller). I haven't used this product so have no advice on how useful it would be in actual use.
