    Proper function (XP SR-1)

    Hello,

I have a list of names in UPPER CASE and I want to change them to Title Case. So, I use the =Proper function. Let's say that the names in upper case are in column A (A1 through A100). In cell B1 I type =proper(a1) and I get the name in title case in cell B1. Great. Why can't I autofill or even copy the function down column B (B2:B100)?

You should be able to (when B1 is selected) dbl-click the lower right corner to autofill it down column BYou could also copy it and then selelct B2:B100 and press paste.

If all cells in A1:A100 are filled, you should be able to double click the fill grip (the little black square in the lower right corner of B1 when it is selected) to fill down to B100. Dragging the fill grip of B1 down to B100 should work even if not all cells in A1:A100 are filled, as should selecting B1:B100 and pressing Ctrl+D. What is the problem you have with these methods?

    Hello,

The problem I am having in this one particular spreadsheet is that the name in the first cell (cell A2 containing Al Vincente) gets repeated all the way down in column B, acting as if it were an absolute cell reference rather than relative cell addressing, where B3 should contain A3's name.

Do you have Calculation set to manual?

    Shades, you are correct, Sir!!!

I would never have known to go there. On my machine where it was working properly, I had calc set to automatic, but on the problem machine calc was set to manual. You get the prize.

    Thanks.
