Unable to toggle messages marked for deletion. (Outlook2002 SP3)

Even though I have a checkmark by View/Current View/Hide Messages Marked for Deletion, Outlook draws a line through deleted messages and leave them visible in my Inbox. It was working just fine, then one day it started doing this. I've checked help, MS website, and Google with no joy. I know I can Purge Deleted Messages but this will remove them from the IMAP server. I usually leave them a few days just to be sure I really don't need them. Have tried changing to another view, leaving Outlook and restarting. Can you help?

I've never used IMAP from Outlook (only from Outlook Express), so I have no direct experience with this problem. However, as a completely separate matter, I've been having a lot of trouble with views lately. I believe there is a startup switch that you can use to reset your views, but if you have created custom views, you may well lose them.

I'm using plain vanilla Outlook with no preferences set. How would I use a startup switch?

Oops, sorry. I replied before I checked the link. Thanks very much - why does Microsoft make things so hard to find?
