    Windows Media Player (Windows XP)

This morning I inserted a Music CD and when I click Media Play it doesn't work. It will just pin and nothing else.

Not sure if that's supposed to be "spin" or not. Have you tried the disc with another player or in another computer? It would be good to see if the problem is something OTHER than WMP first.

Tried several CD's and i even have music recorded on the HD and nothing works. The Media player won't even start or open. Could I have told it to use a different software to play music somehow?

If you have different software to play music with (like WinAmp) try that. You might also want to check your speaker connections and power source.

    Check the easy and obvious stuff first. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Re: Windows Media Player (Windows XP)

Looks like I'm full of more questions than answers! You didn't say what version of WMP you have installed, so it might be worth a trip to MS's web pages and download/install the latest version to see if something in your current setup has gotten corrupt. Now, what did you mean by: "...when I click Media Play..." ? Are you clicking on a multimedia button on your keyboard? Do you have AutoRun turned on for your CD drive? Does anything happen when you INSERT a disc into the drive? For a "music" file on your hard drive, what are you doing to try to play one - double-clicking a file in Windows Explorer or what? Depending on the type of file involved, your file associations could be out of whack and need to be modified. I'm sure you know that music files on a "normal" CD are a different file type than, for example, MP3s or WAVs or what have you. Hope you don't think this is harrassment, but I'm trying to narrow down the problem, short of just telling you to re-install Windows Media Player.

By the way, some of us do have multiple audio playing software on our computers and that's what I meant in my earlier comment. I have WMP, QuickTime, RealOne and some kind of program installed by my sound card. So, I happen to have a number of choices. But let's not worry about that yet.....

Edited to add: Good point about the speakers and/or power, Doc, I hadn't even thought to check that!

Re: Windows Media Player (Windows XP)

I have "normal" CD's, MP3, and Wav's. that I tried. With out selecting or or inserting a CD I try to just start the Media Player. Not sure what version of the Medial Player I had/have, I was using the default that comes with Windows XP.

Will the problem is "fixed" now. I went online and downloaded version 9 and its working fine now.

Thanks for the suggestions and no I never take the suggestion I get as harrassment.
