    Can't delete xxxx.dot file (Office97)

    I recently installed on my daughter's computer ,a new mail program called Foxmail. The program works fine but there seems to be some conflict with Office97.
    The computer is Patium iv 2.4, Win98.
    Since I have installed this program, I can't open a word document. The problem lies in a file called foxmail.dot that is sitting in the startup folder of microsoft office.
    Microsoft Office>Office>startup>foxmail.dot
    It will not delete.. I get a message that it may be corrupt /or disk is full.
    Can't re-install Office as it can't find winword.exe... maybe it is being used by another program.
    I also deleted the new mail program... still can't delete the ---dot--- file.
    Any suggestions where to go from here? <img src=/S/please.gif border=0 alt=please width=31 height=23>

    Re: Can't delete xxxx.dot file (Office97)

    Hi Carol:
    Reboot so that neither Word nor any other Office apps are loaded. You need to delete the temp files that probably ocurred when you crashed. See the steps in <post#=197827>post 197827</post#>. Before trying to load Word, End Task on all your startup programs except Explorer. Then you should be able to remove the foxmail.dot file.

    If you still have trouble, go to Start/Run & type
    msconfig
    <enter>

    Go to the Startup tab & UNcheck anything related to Office or Foxmail. Then reboot & try again. Post back with the results.
    Cheers,

    went to the dot file and deleted..no problem with words...

    I installed office xp and re-installed the foxmail all is working fine... no lurking corrupted files ..
