    VLookup equivalent (Access 2000)

(Subject edited by HansV to make it more descriptive than "Access")

My data base has customer data and contract dates. I need something like a VLookup function that will give me the first contract date for a customer, no matter how many contract dates they have in the list. My query states the customer name and then all the dates (in ascending order) that they have a contract in the system. I just want their name and the first date that appears in the list. Can you help? Thank you.

Make the query into a totals query (View | Totals or click the Totals button on the toolbar). This will add a Total row to the query grid. Leave the Total option for the customer name to the default Group By, and set it to Min for the contract date field. Switch to datasheet view to check that you get one date for each customer.
