LOCKED OUT OF ACCESS DATABASE. (2000 SP3)

I have an Access database or rather I did.
Now any attempt to open it results in the message

The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the data at the same time.

This is for any attempt to open it.

    Normal Open
    With SHIFT
    To repair it.

From VBA in another dataabase using either DAO or ADODB
FROM VB6 using an OLEDB connection.
    or using MSQuery

All I get is that message and then the database will not open.

Any suggestions or has it had it.

I fear that your database is toast. I assume that you have also tried to import the tables and other database objects into a blank new database.

You could try the JetComp utility; it tries to compact and repair a database without opening it, but don't expect much. If that doesn't work either, a recent non-corrupt backup is your best bet.

    Hmm.
Better get the butter and jam for the toast.

    Tried JetComp (COULDN'T HANDLE IT)

Found a utility on the net that can do it, but it costs $399 for a single user licence
and demo only recovers first 10 rows in each table

    Thanks for help anyway.

    Hi Andrew

Could you provide a link to the utility?

    Thanks, John

    Hi Andrew,
I presume you already looked at the possibility of a hosed lock file. But just for grins, check to see if there is a file in the same folder as the database with an LDB extension. If there is make sure you have Access closed and then try deleting that file. I suspect it may well be toast, but that's worth trying before throwing in the towel.

That link (after removing the space before support) is to the JetComp utility (I already posted that link higher up in this thread); I think John was interested in a link to the $ 399 one.

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

I found this utility will work.

    But it costs heaps $399
