Suggestions to improve the lounge...

The small box for the "subject" encourages cryptic entries.

Exactly. I made it small so that people wouldn't write half their message in the Subject box.

How about the user which started a thread being able to mark it as "solved issue" (or similar). Combined with a filter (*) this would allow the others to see whether the thread still needs help/ideas or whether it might offer some new insights. In a nutshell: Similar to http://www.experts-exchange.com but without their scoreboard system, which can get too competitive at times (provided it works, which currently is a time function....)

(*) or a downright split of each forum in Pending/Archive

I was thinking the very same thing.
How about a 'Solved' Post Icon?

Don't forget just because a problem is solved for you that doesn't somebody else might want to keep on talking about it. Maybe even offer an alternative or a quibble...

As for a "solved" icon, you've got plenty of choice there already - the "trophy" would probably suit your need very weel.

You're right!

Oh, I totally agree. I wasn't thinking of a 'this thread is closed' - more of a 'Thank You - It Works' or whatever.

I'll be the first to admit I get far more out of these forums than I put in and a 'Solved' icon is certainly not going to stop me reading and/or responding to a thread.

Eileen, I too did not think about closing a thread by preventing non participants to access the thread (w/o "paying") or adding new comments as in EE.

I you / w3t allow the asking person to put this Throphy icon in the _first_ post of the thread (*), then all users would see at one glance (especialy in collapsed flat mode) whether the thread is "ripe" for lurking or whether there is still a technical challenge.

(*) Kind of automated override of the "maximum edit time" and icon insertion.

I don't think there's any need to go to those lengths. Just send a reply with Thank you - Problem Solved prominent in the Suject and a Trophy or Grin PostIcon and they'll get the picture.

Having your thead view set to expanded and your messages to threaded makes it a lot easier if you want to spot things like this quickly.

I always say Thank's, however, to date I have found , as in, I should have known that, to be a more appropriate response than [trophy].

Hmmm, interesting [trophy] did not work. Guess it really is time to RTFM.
