    Hangs on Copy (2003)

I'm using a file created in Excel 2002, now in 2003 (don't know if that makes a difference in this issue).
When I try to copy a cell, Excel goes unresponsive. I have to stop the process from the Task List box. Only happens with this one file. Doesn't matter if I try it with the keyboard or the back-arrow icon.
    Any ideas/fixes?

I don't know how complex the workbook is. Does it have multiple worksheets in use? If so, does the problem occur in every one of them? (Don't know how to copy a cell using a "back-arrow icon" though.)

It is possible the workbook has become damaged.

Try the methods in MSKB 820741 to see if they resolve the problem

    Re: Hangs on Copy (2003)

If the workbook has any VBA code in it, the first thing to check is if there is any code in any event routine that might be going into a loop when you try to copy the cell. If that is happening, then you should be able to break out of the loop and see where it is occuring by pressing Ctrl + Break.

If that is not the problem, then it is possible that the workbook has become corrupted. First, make a copy of the workbook as the procedure below may lose some of the formatting/features in the workbook. Then try the following:

    1- Open the workbook.

2- Select Save As from the File menu.

3- In the "Save as type" drop down list, select "Web page (*.htm, *.html)".

4- Click Ok to save the file in HTML format.

    5- Close Excel.

6- Open Excel. Select Open from the File menu, navigate to the HTML file you just saved and open it.

7- Select Save As from the file menu and save the file back into standard .xls format.

Now see if you can copy the cell.

I meant the copy icon, sorry...guess I was staring at the undo arrow in the vain hopes it would help this time.
The file has about 15 sheets in the workbook, bu no cells (are supposed to) reference any in other sheets.
